Today’s a public holiday here and everything’s closed, even the grocery stores. They’re seriously missing out on a ton of money, because the only Lidl that was open (the one by the train station) was absolutely packed. Total chaos, with long lines and stressed-out shoppers. Clearly, people would rather go shopping than hang out at church. Funny they’re not allowed to.
Anyway, dad and I took a little trip to the local lock system. Perfect timing, we got there just in time to see a couple of boats being lifted by the water.
Basically, the boats enter a narrow chamber with low water, the gate closes behind them, and then the chamber fills up with water from the other side. Once the water level matches, the boats continue on their way. Very cool!
Then it started raining, and we’ve been indoors ever since – surrounded by way too much food. Can’t wait for tomorrow when my cousin Olga “rescues” me and I’ll just have a latte before dinner.
